Circulating Nurse

Karen graduated from the Registered Nursing Program at El Centro College in Dallas in 1978. Before joining Dr. Bloom’s practice, she had 13 years experience in Plastic Surgery and is highly trained in all aspects of plastic surgery nursing. She is trained as a surgical scrub nurse, circulating nurse, and recovery nurse.

Karen joined the practice in 1998 and serves at the Surgical Nurse Coordinator for the Bloom Surgicenter. She oversees all functions of the surgery unit to optimize safety, efficiency, and quality patient care at all times.

Our patients can feel confident that they are in good hands at all times as Karen continually evaluates our standards to increase the quality of their care.

Karen also oversees all of the practice’s research and study programs. She continually evaluates supplies, medications, and services that we can provide for the safety and comfort of our surgical patients.

Joan Opiela, CST, CFA
Certified Surgical Technologist
Certified First Assistant

Joan received her CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) designation in 1973 and remains active in several professional surgical organizations, including the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Nurses Association and The Association of Surgical Technologists.

Joan has been an essential part of Dr. Bloom’s surgical team since 1994, providing a wonderful combination of technical knowledge, operating room experience, and sincere care for each patient.

She went on to further her training and education and received her CFA (Certified First Assistant) Certification in December 2000. Joan has a special gift for attention to detail and brings superb skills to our operating room as she provides assistance to Dr. Bloom.

She is an asset to the surgical team and works closely with the circulating nurse to provide unsurpassed assistance to Dr. Bloom in the operating room during each procedure.

Delia Ibarra
Certified Operating Room Technician

Delia is a Certified Surgery Technician with 15 years experience working in various surgical facilities. Delia received her education and training in El Paso Texas where she received her surgical technician certification. She has years of Plastic Surgery experience and has been associated with Dr. Bloom’s surgical team for the past 10 years.

Delia’s calm, capable manner and years of experience make her a great asset to Dr. Bloom’s elite surgical team.

Candy Depoma, RN
Recovery Nurse

Candy Depoma has been associated with our practice since 1986.  She originally began working for Dr. Bloom as a Front Office Assistant.  She quickly moved into the Front Office Coordinator position and handled all aspects of the front office for a number of years.  As a licensed LVN she assisted patients with their surgical questions and needs.  She decided to continue her education and training and became a Registered Nurse.  After becoming licensed as an RN, Candy assumed the role of Dr. Bloom’s recovery nurse for several years.  She continued to broaden her knowledge and further her education.  She accepted a surgical internship which took her to Baylor University Medical Center where she worked in Neurosurgery as a surgical nurse for 2 years.
